Production Methods

We offer a range of finishes & ‘go the extra mile' to ensure all our productions are of the finest quality.

PHOTOGRAPHY - Black & White

Known in the art world as Silver Gelatin, our photographs are individually hand printed to archival standard on fibre-based paper from the original negative and using the finest quality traditional materials. Each individual photograph takes over 1 hour to produce, every one with a slight variance in contrast and tone, therefore making it unique. It is worth noting that a few of these historic gems, some nearly 100 years old, occasionally have inherent emulsion faults and although minimal re-spotting is done, some marks will remain on the final print. We consider that these marks only add character and emphasise their age and pedigree.

PHOTOGRAPHY - Colour

We still have some remaining RARE Cibachrome’s, soon to become collectors items in their own right - get them while you still can!

This process is a unique colour print system for photographs from colour transparencies. Each is printed individually to exacting standards. The sharpness, colour intensity, clean whites and accuracy to the original slide are second to none. One can expect a Cibachrome to last many years, even in exposed situations, although as with black and whites and with any valuable work of art one would try to avoid direct sunlight.

FRAMING - Our Standards

Each photograph is individually finished by a member of the Fine Art Guild. This includes dry mounting (heat press), top mount with hand cut pale ivory rag/cotton acid-free museum board, inscription in pen and Indian Ink and framed in a solid wood hand stained frame supplied ready to frame. We will recommend a suitable frame to compliment the image (traditionally stained black wood) and a choice of standard glass, non-reflective or UV light blocking protection glass (highly recommended). We can also provide other options on framing, including shadow gap, keyline, floating and box.

PRODUCTION - Other Options

We offer a range of other bespoke options to suit including; Foamex, Aluminium and Perspex. We can also offer bespoke Lightboxes which provide a dramatic way to display images. We have used a range of processes during some bespoke projects, some of which can be viewed here. We are happy to discuss individual requirements, so please contact us.

JARROTTS can provide your photograph ready to hang. We will recommend a suitable frame to compliment the image (traditionally stained black wood) and a choice of standard glass, non-reflective or UV light blocking protection glass (highly recommended).
