Original WW2 RAF C Type Flying Helmet
This World War 11 C type helmet was issued by the Air Ministry in 1942. It consists of a brown leather C type flying helmet with chamois lining, radio telephone receivers marked 10A/13466, together with an H type oxygen mask including built in microphone and high altitude breathing tube having a Bakelite fitting. Completing this fantastic piece of memorabilia is a pair of R.A.F. Mk 111 goggles.
This helmet was formerly the property of FL/LT R. Morris of R.A.F. 268 Squadron.
FL/LT Morris flew for 268 Squadron in 1942, with the Squadron initially operating Westland Lysander’s, Curtiss Tomahawk’s and the North American Mustang. Equipped for training and reconnaissance operational duties, the Squadron was declared operational in June 1942. On 21 October 1942 the Mustang’s of 268 Squadron became the first single engined fighters based in the UK to cross the German border, which caused a great deal of consternation to the German High Command. In 1943 the Squadron was also equipped with the Hawker Typhoon and in 1945 the Supermarine Spitfire and de Havilland Mosquito. A wonderful piece of military history in superb condition considering its age,
