Original Painting by esteemed artist, Tim Layzell, depicting Le Mans 1955
An amazing piece of art from esteemed artist and friend of JARROTTS, Tim Layzell. Tim has captured, in his known for ‘Pop Art’ style, the epic and ultimately tragic Vingt Quatre Heures du Mans in 1955, with Mike Hawthorn in the winning Jaguar D-type chasing the Ferrari of Eugenio Castellotti.
This stunning original painting is professionally framed and measures approximately 96 cms x 80 cms overall.
The Le Mans 24 Hours of 1955 brought together the might of England, Italy and Germany, with cars from Jaguar, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz respectively. The race started as a sprint with Castellotti in the ‘works’ Ferrari 735 LM leading Hawthorn in the D-type and Fangio in the 300 SLR. Shortly after 18:00 a terrible disaster struck, which resulted in the loss of over eighty lives, including that of Mercedes-Benz driver, Pierre Levegh. Mercedes-Benz withdrew their remaining cars at 01:45 and with Castellotti and Marzotto having retired at 20:00, the way was clear for Hawthorn and teammate Ivor Bueb to take the chequer flag .
