Derek Bell – Le Mans Race Used & Signed Helmet
This Derek Bell helmet, made by Shoei, was race used during the 1991 Sportscar season. Derek mainly raced in the USA that year, with appearances at the Daytona 24 Hours, West Palm Beach 2 Hours, Miami 2 Hours, Road Atlanta 300km, Watkins Glen 500km, Portland 300km and Road America 300km. He ventured further south at the end of this season to take part in the Mexico City 430km, but the real jewel in the crown was his participation in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Here he drove a Porsche 962C with Frank Jelinski and Hans-Joackim Stuck, finishing seventh, as evidenced by the ‘action’ photo.
The helmet was signed-on in person at Goodwood Festival of Speed several years ago and features an RAC scrutineering sticker for 1991.
Derek is widely known for his five overall Le Mans victories (currently the leading number of wins for a British driver), but he also enjoyed success in Formula One, Formula Two and Touring Cars.
