Ukyo Katayama F1 Race Used Helmet
This Ukyo Katayama helmet, made by Arai was race used in the 1994 Formula One season and in particular the non Tobacco races in Canada, France, Britain and Germany. In these races the diminutive Japanese driver failed to finish due to the fragile Yamaha engine, but scored a point for sixth the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone.
This helmet has been painted with Tyrrell replacing the Mild Seven sponsorship on the crown of the helmet and has been signed on the visor.
Ukyo’s breakthrough year was 1991 where he won the Japanese Formula 3000 championship for Cabin Racing Team with Heroes. The following year he made his debut in Formula One for the Central Park Venturi Larrousse team, before switching to Tyrrell Racing Organisation in 1993. He scored his first points in 1994 at the season opening Brazilian Grand Prix, again at San Marino and finally at Silverstone, where this helmet was used. He also competed at Le Mans on several occasions, famously finishing second in 1999 suffering heartbreak and a puncture in the last hour which negated his charge to possible victory.
